Scotland is a landscape awash with colour. But throughout the seasons, full circle, from the fresh shoots of Spring, to frozen winter Pine, green dominates.
Spring is given an exotic touch by white and pink flowered cherries, their petals falling in drifts of floral ‘snow’.
Day light hours rapidly lengthen from their winter slumber, and the grass starts to threaten the peace of somnolent mowers.
There is one downside of this greening landscape, the highland midge. Voracious clouds of ravenous females dominate the windless dawn and evening air, seeking a bloodmeal for their brood. Submissive humans will do nicely, unless they flee to indoor bars refuge.
In the heat of the day meadow flowers provide the fuel for the bees and wasps…
And if the showers persist, the hillsides maintain their deep green tones throughout the summer months.
Then all too soon, the hues redden as fall takes hold. Shortening days lead to long golden shadows.
After the sweeping of the leaves, and the November rains, we can settle in for a wet or sometimes snowy winter. However the greens still shine through, offset against pure glistening white.
We sit tight and await the heads of stirring snowdrops and crocus’ to poke through melting snow of early spring.
Full circle.
Beautiful pictures!
Thank you! Scotland gets the credit though 🙂
